Aboke girls (Uganda)
Aboke Girls. Produced by Het Waterhuis in 2001. Directed by Roel Twijnstra. Script: Kees van Loenen and Marielle van Saures. English translation made by Moses Isegawa. Based on a book by Els de Temmermans about childsolders and the abduction of girls in Uganda. The project was rehearsed in the northern part of Uganda in cooperation with “Nedere Troupe” from Kampala. This video made by Maaike Engels shows fragments of the tour to cities and refugee camps in Gulu, Kitgum, Lira and the final performance in the National Theater in Kampala. The video also shows parts of the animation and dance workshops and contains some intervieuws with ex-childsoldiers.
